Reflections of UDL, DI, and Technology

This course encouraged me to make a fundamental paradigm shift in my thinking about differentiated instruction. Previously, I regarded DI as an individualized instructional approach; however, the course’s resources modified my perspective. I began to realize that DI is mindset, a philosophy that explains how teachers connect with students, a significant way to address to the needs of my diverse learners. UDL, DI and technology, will provide an efficient way for me to plan, at the front end, an initial design that includes flexible approaches and activities for my students. I share the fundamental DI philosophy that all students can learn and that teachers must challenge students with high expectations in an environment that invites and ensures learning (Laureate Education Inc, 2008).

I have had the privilege of participating in a ning, a great group of supportive and resourceful individuals. The members of my ning shared invaluable web resources and online digital tools as I have recently learned about a Prezi and additional features from websites as discovery education and the readwritethink organization. Participants of the differentiation station network shared various online surveys and profiles, important tools that will help me to learn more about my students’ differences and unique abilities.

Throughout the course, I had the opportunity to review and to expand my understanding of assessment and assessment formats. I have been able to confront many of my misconceptions and consequently, am more able to amend my assessment plan and procedures. It is essential that I observe and gather useful information concerning my students’ understanding of content knowledge, and by implementing the appropriate technology, my students will be able to connect to new knowledge, construct products and be more prepared to participate effectively in the global workforce (Laureate Education Inc, 2008).
